Renowned Restaurant Finds Robust Payroll and HR Solution for Complex Challenges

The first Acme Oyster House restaurant (known then as the Acme Café) opened in 1910 in the New Orleans French Quarter. This famous restaurant has been pleasing the palates of discriminating diners ever since.

Acme Oyster House’s management credits its 100+ year success to great service and not getting too far from the seafood source. In addition to the original French Quarter
location, Acme Oyster Houses are open in three other Louisiana cities: Covington, Metairie and Baton Rouge. There is also an Acme Oyster House in Sandestin on the Florida panhandle. Each location is a short, refrigerated drive away from where Acme’s oysters are harvested which ensures that their signature dishes always feature fresh seafood.

Results

Acme Oyster House selected APS OnLine, which integrates payroll, core HR, time & attendance, and employee self-service in a single platform design, eliminating repetitive tasks. By keeping key components of human capital management in a single online platform, Acme is able to realize greater efficiency, access data from any location, and easily integrate the APS solution with other business applications, such as accounting packages.

The APS HRIS module was particularly important to Acme. It is comprehensive and can be used to disseminate internal communications, define benefit plans, provide access to employee policies, and open electronic benefit enrollment through employee self-service. The eSELFSERVE.COM feature also allows employees to access information they frequently request from the HR department.

The company was able to make necessary integrations using the APS solution and ran its first payroll with the new system in January of 2009. “APS invested the time with us to analyze existing systems and to make sure that we had a seamless conversion,” said Baker. “APS led us through the process of extracting employee and payroll data history out of the previous system, corrected errors that were made in the old system, and made sure the information was entered into the new system correctly to give us ultimate confidence in the data.” Requested integrations were also thoughtfully addressed. “We outlined a lot of unique data handling needs which were important to us,” noted Baker. “At the end of the day, APS gave us everything we asked for.”

Rollins agreed. “Our HR department has found the system to be very user-friendly, and it continues to evolve and to offer additional functions to us,” explained Rollins. “From a customer service standpoint, APS is second to none. They are accessible and quick to respond when needed. If there is something they can’t answer immediately, they get the answer. Responsiveness is critical to a company running a weekly payroll.” APS OnLine also features the ability to easily create custom reports and includes a large number of standard employee, HR, payroll and Time & Attendance reports designed to provide users with the most frequently requested information. Acme has found the reporting functionality within the APS solution to be a significant timesaver with flexibility to meet specialized needs.
