Restaurant
payrolls are uniqueÉ.that's why we have developed
tools and functions to help manage this process.
With tips, multiple rates of pay
and POS interfacing, we've got you covered.
That's why the Louisiana Restaurant Association
(LRA) chose APS as the recommended service provider
for their members.
Features for restaurant payrolls
include:
Tip
to Minimum Calculations
APS OnLine will automatically gross up
a tipped employee's wages in the event that the
employee does not earn enough tips to make minimum
wage. Also known as Tip to Min.
With APS OnLine you know
which employees will be grossed up prior to
submitting the payroll information. That way
if adjustments need to be made, you can make
them before the payroll is processed, rather
than trying to fix problems after the payroll
arrives.
For more complex payrolls,
each income item can be flagged to be included
in the Tip to Min calculation.
Tip Credit Overtime
Calculations
One of the most difficult
calculations for a restaurant payroll involves
the tip credit and overtime pay for tipped employees.
With APS OnLine there is no need to create another
wage type or setup an additional rate of pay
for the employee. APS OnLine knows which employees
are tipped and what the overtime rate should
be. And, just like the Tip to Min income item,
you can see the overtime pay for each employee
before the payroll is submitted.
Unpaid Deductions Report
In many cases for tipped
employees, the employee's net pay is not enough
to cover the full tax withholdings and additional
deductions. Our Unpaid Deductions report will
detail this information and is prepared with
each payroll. In addition, the same information
can be reported on in APS OnLine for any time
period or any employee; therefore, allowing
you to make the necessary adjustments to recover
deduction amounts unpaid by the employee.
This may sound good, but we've
taken deductions even further. With each deduction
we can set the option of allowing a partial
deduction, or to make up the deduction automatically
on the next payroll. What does this mean to
you? Well, you never have to track payroll adjustments
for deductions from payroll to payroll, and
your exposure to overpaying employees is significantly
reduced.
Point-of-Sale (POS)
interfacing
With interfaces in place
for many of the more popular POS systems, you
won't have to re-key your employee time clock
data; therefore, maintaining the integrity of
your data, and reducing payroll errors. After
importing your data, any necessary adjustments
can be made to employee hours or tips before
submitting the payroll. In addition, the Batch
Report will detail the income items and deduction
items of each employee.
Multiple rates of pay
In most restaurants, employees
will perform multiple jobs, such as hostess,
wait staff, kitchen, or shift manager. With
APS OnLine, employees can easily be assigned
multiple rates of pay for each job or department.
All of which are detailed on the employee's
pay stub, reducing the number of employee payroll
questions.
Workers Compensation
Reporting
By departmentalizing your
payroll, each worker's comp classification can
be tracked and paid using the proper code and
rate. A worker's comp report can be generated
at any time for a given time period using APS OnLine.
Form 8846 Reporting
- Credit for Employer Social Security and Medicare
Taxes Paid on Certain Employee Tips
As most restaurateurs know,
the restaurant owner(s) are allowed to take
a credit on their personal income tax return
equal to the amount of social security and Medicare
taxes paid on employee tips that are above the
federal minimum wage.
Calculating the credit can
be a difficult task and many owners simply do
not have the time to make the proper calculations
and end up forfieting the credit.
With APS, we can calculate
the credit and generate the 8846 report in seconds.
This is an annual report that will list all
employees, the total tip income, tips not subject
to the credit and the tips subject to the credit.
